Tap project: a nice gamification play for gamers

Tap coin is an Ethereum based token that gives game players the ability to export game currency and use it in other games, opening a new path for decentralised virtual game currency where players control their winnings.

Players Tap Wallets are linked to their ETH wallet through a smart contract. This gives the gamer the ability to store and convert game currencies to Tap Coins.

Using the platform in combination with the Tap Wallet, the gamer can convert gained Tapcoins (TTT) back into any in-game currency that is supported by the Tap Platform. This means that in-game currencies can then be used to gain greater items (like upgrades or to unlock new levels) in the players game of choice. Or if a player has spent countless hours accruing game tokens and reaches the end of the game, instead of these tokens being wasted, they can be put to use in another game.

For game developers/publishers, adding the Tap Plugin increases player retention and end game engagement, increases discoverability and is a free marketing channel. It also provides an immediate and additional revenue stream for each published game by using a tiered transactional revenue model – conversions are supplied by the Tap Reserve and each of the conversions listed below earns the publisher revenue.

  1. Players earn in-game currency and export it to their Tap Account Wallet.
  2. Convert game currency to Tap Coins, earning revenue for the publisher.
  3. Players can import Tap coins back into in-game currency.

The Tap Project team have nailed their branding, you actually feel like you’re in a game when you’re browsing the website or watching one of the awesome explainer videos found here. Every aspect of the marketing communications suits the gaming target market to a T.

The blockchain element of the program goes hand-in-hand with the project concept as the fluctuating nature of cryptocurrencies which are ‘alive’ is a gamification aspect in itself. When you then add the ability to transfer in-game currency to allow advancement within games, it’s clear that the program design and program technology work together to drive deep engagement – if the mass adoption of Candy Crush, Pokemon Go, Plants vs Zombies and Angry Birds are anything to go by in recent years, I have no doubt there’s a desire for in-game currency and Tapcoin takes it to the next level by allowing interchangeability between different in-game currencies, ultimately driving demand for Tapcoin.

Whilst the plug-and-play integration is there to allow for the easy addition of games to the network, only one game, Stunt Runner, is currently signed, not giving much purpose for Tapcoin at the moment. Still, you have to start somewhere, and hopefully the Tap Project’s business development managers are as talented as the tech and the marketing functions which have so far impressed us greatly.
